COMMISSIONED PROJECTS
I was chosen as the artist to execute live illustrations of the interviews captured for the Grit & Grace Series with #000000 Agency (REVOLT Media & TV). In partnership with Nationwide, “Grit & Grace” tells the stories of everyday people who are at the forefront of initiatives and platforms that are fighting to alleviate social injustices in Black communities around the nation.
To achieve this, I examined the raw interview footage, extracting essential elements for visual storytelling. The live illustrations seamlessly integrated cutouts of my digital design mocks and live paintings, effectively breathing life into both Lauren's and Butta’s narratives.
The Black Arts Collective at The California Institute of the Arts entrusted me with the role of the Blue Wall mural artist for Future Fest (Black History Month 2023).
Future Fest is the fresh take on how The Collective is interacting with the CalArts Ecosystem, while building upon the foundation laid by past Collective pioneers.
The project unfolded through the creation of a mock treatment for the wall, which I presented to the Blue Wall Committee. Once my design was approved, I worked with a budget to source materials for outlining and painting.
My mural aimed to celebrate the voices of black CalArts students and serve as a vision statement for the futures our dreams will bring to fruition. As the lead artist, I successfully completed the project, taking charge of several painting workshop sessions with members of The Collective who generously contributed to realizing my vision.
This mural represents a historic milestone as the first Black History Month mural at The California Institute of the Arts. Additionally, I take pride in being the first Black artist to amplify the voices of underrepresented black CalArts students.
Collaborations
As an artist in the 2022 Cohort for Comfiart's Design + Muse program, I conceptualized a holiday design titled "Family Love”. This design was created and prepared for holiday wrapping paper. My intention was for this design to highlight the association of joy and happiness within African American communities during the holiday season.
